Artists Against the Quarry February 2012 Sale a Huge Success

artists-tor-sale-feb-12-thuThe first 'Artists Against the MegaQuarry' exhibit to be held in Toronto
was a hit! More than 20 pieces were sold! Thanks to all who attended and contributed to the great cause. The opening reception on Friday night was packed as more than 150 guests mingled with the artists. It was busy on Saturday, as well. What was striking was the number of new faces we encountered, Torontonians who were clearly engaged in the mega quarry issue and attended to show their support.

Many thanks to volunteer, Debbie McNair, and her colleagues at the studio for generously opening their space to us for the two days. As well, special thanks to organizers Sandi Wong and Martha Bull for all of their hard work.

Baupost Might Lose Money on Mega-quarry Investment

Back-of-the-envelope math once told a story that estimated $43B profits for the mega-quarry project.  This was based on the assumption that most or all acreage named in the proposal (2,316 of Highland’s 9,000+ acre holdings) would be used for the extraction of aggregate, and would yield an estimated $18M revenue per acre.  Yet, pointed questions around the specific use of the land told a different financial story.

Events in Dufferin County in 2011

This peak is thought to be the second highest landmark in Southern Ontario. This is my backyard!

But, lately the views and vistas have been filled with images of a different concern…
