Greenwood's Gravel Pit in Melancthon will Need to Upgrade Licence on Extraction Limit

DWP to buy needed aggregate in Melancthon

Dufferin Wind Power is promising to avoid long-distance haulage of aggregates for construction of the bases for its proposed 49 wind turbine towers by purchasing the requirements from an existing pit in Melancthon.

Records at the township office, available online, indicate that Greenwood Construction Company Ltd. would be supplying 250,000 tonnes for the single contract. As the current licence limits extraction to 100,000 tonnes annually, the proposal requires an amendment to the licence.

The township is likely to approve the request for amendment, but not until the wind farm proposal has won final approval, likely in 2013.
