Call to Action

AUGUST CALL TO ACTION
PROTECT YOUR WATER and FOOD

In the July 30, 2011 Toronto Sun article titled Between a Rock and a Hard Place, Maude Barlow, Council of Canadians is quoted as saying:

"Between the shocking indifference shown by the provincial government and the pure greed of the American billionaires that bought up the farmland, this will be an uphill battle," Council of Canadians head Maude Barlow said jointly with Avaaz. Ms. Barlow, speaking on behalf of the Council of Canadians
threatened an election war unless the government quashes the March 11 licence application by Highland Companies for a 5-by-1.5 km aggregate mining operation in Melancthon Township, where the company reportedly acquired 3,444 hectares of prime farm land.

ACTION: Contact EVERY candidate running in the October 6, 2011 Provincial election (Liberal, Conservative, Green and NDP) and insist that they make a public statement, outlining a clear action plan to STOP THE QUARRY. Strongly urge all existing MPP’s to take the necessary steps, while still in session prior to
the election, to require the Province to subject the proposed mega quarry to a full Environmental Assessment.
