Hill pleased at response from ARA review committee

Melancthon Mayor Bill Hill says he got a positive response to his concise, 1,500-word presentation on the Aggregate Resources Act review in Toronto Monday.

“The committee, I believe, liked the fact our comments were direct and specific for the most part while others were more general. Only time will tell,” he said in an emailed response to a bid for his reaction.

ARA Hearings - Much more time is clearly needed

TWO DAYS OF HEARINGS in the middle of a legislature session is clearly not enough time for a proper review of Ontario’s controversial Aggregates Resources Act (ARA). Yet that’s apparently how much time has been allotted by the legislature’s Standing Committee on General Government, which in March was given a mandate to conduct the review.

Hill, Jones: ARA review ‘not what was promised’

The provincial Standing Committee on General Government has begun its longawaited review of the Ontario Aggregate Resources Act (ARA), but neither Melancthon Mayor Bill Hill nor Dufferin Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones considers the format of the review to be anywhere close to expectations.

Aggregate Resources Act Review Begins Mon. May 7, 2012

Four days set to Toronto

They don’t mine too much aggregate in Toronto, but that’s where the provincial government’s review of the Aggregate Resources Act (ARA) will be exclusively held.

“The Liberals promised that an in-depth review would take place and that there would be ample opportunity for public participation,” Jones said. “Four partial days of hearings is not sufficient to allow for meaningful public participation.”
