Dear Mr. Lowndes:
As you know, a public forum was held on Saturday January 17, 2009 at the Honeywood Arena to discuss concerns about recent events in our community and their impact on the quality of life valued by the people of Melancthon, Mulmur as well as all of North Dufferin County. At this meeting a committee was elected to gather information and promote the interests of local residents. That committee, The North Dufferin Agricultural and Community Taskforce, Inc. (NDACT), has started its work.
In response to concerns from our community about the lack of information regarding the plans of your group of companies, we feel it would be fitting to have another Town Hall Meeting to enhance the dialogue and let friends and neighbours have their questions answered.
Your representative at the January 17 meeting actually claimed not to know your full intentions and was unable to answer a number of questions that we suspect you would have been in a better position to address. Therefore, we would like to ask if you, and not a representative, would be able to personally attend to answer our questions. Interested community members would then get the information right from the source and this would definitely demonstrate a movement towards building trust and transparency.
In the interest of time and with the busy spring planting season approaching, we would like to propose a date sometime in the second or third week of March, if possible. Please let us know which Saturday date within this time period would accommodate your schedule.
Thank you in advance for your personal attention and response to the community’s concerns. We look forward to a productive and positive dialogue with you.
Yours truly,
NDACT

Dear Mayor Fawcett and Members of Melancthon Council:
As you know, a public forum was held on Saturday January 17, 2009 at the Honeywood Arena to discuss concerns about recent events in our community and their impact on the quality of life valued by the people of Melancthon, Mulmur as well as all of North Dufferin County. Based on the limited information that is publicly available, it appears that a select few are planning irreversible change to the landscape of our community. Some of you attended this meeting; it was truly inspirational to witness the intensity of support our community received from the hundreds of people who attended the meeting.
During the course of the discussion, it became abundantly clear that most people in the room were anxious for more information and wanted to ensure that they have a voice in future discussions that seem to be the inevitable result of massive land purchases, forest/woodlot clearing, extensive testing and drilling and railroad purchases. At this meeting a committee was elected to gather information and promote the interests of local residents. That committee, The North Dufferin Agricultural and Community Taskforce, Inc. (NDACT), has started its work. NDACT’s mission statement is as follows:
We live in The Hills of the Headwaters, in North Dufferin County, recognized as one of the primary sources for water recharge feeding the Nottawasaga, Credit, Humber and Grand Rivers. Our homes and farms are nestled in an area of magnificent beauty and serenity, amongst some of the best and most productive soils and farmland in Ontario.
The primary mission of the North Dufferin Agricultural and Community Taskforce is to preserve and protect these unique and non-renewable resources, including the agricultural lands, character and lifestyle that have played such an important and vibrant part of our community for more than 150 years.
Further updates will be forthcoming.
Yours truly,
NDACT
